The Blind Will See

Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

— John 9:39

Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,

One commentator wrote of this verse, "Those who are conscious of their blindness and grieved on account of it may be relieved; while those who are content with the light they have lose even that." Lord, may I be increasingly conscious of where I am blind. I want to see! Where I am blind to my own faults, may I see and be healed. Where I am blind to how I impact others negatively, may I see and be made whole. Where I am blind to my own sin, may I see and be forgiven.

Lord, may I be grieved of my own spiritual blindness. As you point out the areas where I am blind, may I surrender those areas to you rather than fight against them. As you lovingly reveal to me how I have blindly hurt or hindered others, may I be broken for it and ask you to heal me and care for those I have hurt. And as you gently shine light into areas of my soul that I have kept hidden from you, from others, and even from myself, may I see what deep work you can do.

Lord, forgive me for being content with the light I think I have. Forgive me for only seeing what I want to see. Open my eyes to my own blindness and shine light into all the dark areas that You want to illuminate. Gracious Lord, today I want to see!

— In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!
