True Grace
"With the help of Silas, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark. Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ."
— 1 Peter 5:12-14
Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,
As Peter brings his letter to a close, he mentions the help of Silas, "whom I regard as a faithful brother." Lord, if there's an aim for my life as a servant of Christ, may I be a man who is called "a faithful brother." I want to be someone who is dependable, reliable, always ready to serve alongside another. I want to be a good steward of the gifts and opportunities presented to me. May it be others who praise me for my character more than any ability.
"This is the true grace of God." Lord, may I be reminded today that this life isn't the result of effort, of works, or my own ability. This life in You is the result of the true grace of God. With that in mind, may I give up striving to do things in my own strength to attain what You have already given through Your grace! May I stand fast in Your grace. May I stand firmly upon Your grace.
"The church who is in Babylon, chosen together with you." It is evident that in the first century, the Church, the bride of Christ, existed within the most ungodly city: Rome. Today, the Church exists in different Babylons. But the Church has not become a part of Babylon. Lord, may we see the Church continue to exist in ungodly places but not be tainted by ungodliness. Keep Your bride pure.
Lord Jesus, thank You for the true grace of God. May I remain faithful to You in Your grace. May Your Church stand fast in Your true grace May brothers and sisters in Christ greet one another with peace and love flowing from You true grace.
— In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!
