At Your Word
“When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.”
— Luke 5:4-6 NKJV
Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,
Five words leap off the page: "At Your word I will..." Despite all the knowledge Simon had about fishing, all the experience he had, all that the present circumstances indicated, he said, "nevertheless at Your word I will..." The result was a catch that broke the nets.
Lord, how many times have you given me a word that ran counter to everything I know and have experienced? What would have been the result if each time I would have simply replied, "At Your word I will..."? How many nets would have broken if I had just admitted, "This makes no sense to me, but nevertheless at Your word I will..."?
Lord Jesus, at Your word, there was light. At Your word, the sun, moon, stars, and planets instantly appeared. At Your word, life on this earth was created. At Your word, all of creation is held together and sustained. At Your word, kingdoms rise and fall. At Your word, bodies are healed. At Your word, demonic spirits flee. At Your word, the dead rise again to life.
Gracious Lord Jesus, I want to be a man who trusts you at Your word. I want to be a man who is willing to discount all the knowledge, experience, and evidence to the contrary and simply respond in obedience to Your word. Today may I say "At Your word I will."
In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!
