Authority
"I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."
— Luke 10:19
Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,
I suspect most believers don't accurately comprehend nor operate in the authority we possess. If I understand this verse correctly, you have made an exchange with your disciples, and by extension also to us today. Your disciples have given you their faith and belief in you as Messiah. You have given your disciples Your authority and victory over Satan and his demons. F.B. Meyer said, "If you dare to live in the risen Christ, you share His empire and all the fruits of His victory over Satan."
In Christ, I have his authority to trample on demonic spirits, not merely tiptoe past them. In Christ, I have his authority to overcome all the power of the enemy, not just survive and somehow muddle through. In Christ, I have his authority so that nothing will harm me—only that which has been lovingly filtered through the Father's hands.
Gracious Lord, today as I navigate a world seemingly overtaken by demonic entities, I choose to walk in your authority to step on those spirits that are in Your way. I can hear the "crunch" under my feet as I trample on demonic schemes and satanic agendas designed to trip me up. The enemy's power is no match for Your authority. What You won at the cross and from the empty tomb is now mine only because I choose to live in You. Today I will trample. I will overcome. I will remember that nothing will harm me. That is Your promise to me today. And I believe it!
In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!
