Gathered at the Door
"That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was."
— Mark 1:32-34
Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,
When the sun goes down and the priorities of our day are done, when darkness creeps in, it seems that is when our frailty and our sin-sickness is most evident. Our self-led energy wanes and we come to the end of ourselves. On this particular evening, the whole town gathered at your door, bringing all the sick and demon-possessed. No longer content with life lived under the crushing weight of sin, sickness, and spiritual oppression, they came to you. A whole town gathered and many were healed. Many demons were driven out. And it would seem many people went home healthy, whole, and free.
Lord, what could you do in my town if the whole of it gathered at your door? Who would you be able to heal and set free? Who presently is under the weight of sin and is ready to come to you, knocking at your door, asking for healing? How can we as a church body provide direction and point the way to the Door that would welcome them and swing wide open?
Gracious Jesus, I pray that our city would sense the coming darkness of night and run to Your door. May You, the Gate, the Door for Your lost sheep, swing wide open so that all who enter through You would be saved (Psalm 118:19; John 10:9). Bring Your healing presence and power to our town so that many would be healed and many would be set free!
—In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!
