No Word Will Fail
“For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
— Luke 1:37-38
Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,
"No word from God will ever fail." Wow. What a statement. That's pretty definitive. Without exception. If God said it, it's going to be done. The Phillips translation renders the verse this way, "For no promise of God can fail to be fulfilled." And many translations say, "For nothing will be impossible with God." If God has made a declarative statement of intent, it cannot fail to be fulfilled. As impossible as it may seem, with God nothing is impossible.
Lord, you have said some things to me in the distant past that have seemed impossible. You have indicated some things to me recently that certainly seem improbable. Yet, I want my response to be just like Mary's, "May your word to me be fulfilled." I don't need to fully understand how you will do these things. I don't need to know when you will complete them. I don't even need to grasp how these things will impact me once they come to pass. All I need to do at this moment is respond like Mary and say, "May your word to me be fulfilled."
When I say those words, there is a "sureness" that comes over me. I'm not quite at the level of "certainty" or "conviction," but I'm on the way! Right now, I have a "sureness" that what you've said, you will do. Now, lead me to a greater confidence. Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Gracious Lord, today may Your word to me be fulfilled. May I have the confidence and the assurance that what You have said will be done. May I operate with the certainty and conviction that Your word promises. May I see the fulfillment of Your word because I know that no word from You will ever fail!
—In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!
