By God's Word
"Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly."
— 2 Peter 3:3-7
Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,
In these last days, there are plenty of scoffers. If one shares a warning, whether it be mentioning the increasing and intensifying birth pains we are witnessing or clearly articulating Your soon-coming return, scoffers not only scoff but they repudiate the one giving the warning. They cannot see the signs of the times, or perhaps more specifically, they refuse to see the signs of the times. Their worldview is dependent upon "everything going on as it has since the beginning of creation."
"...they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word..." These scoffers have deliberately forgotten what the spoken Word of God has created and has destroyed. They have deliberately refused to acknowledge that the same Word of God will once again speak judgment over this world, not destroying it by water but instead destroying it by fire. Their worldview is dependent upon "deliberately forgetting God's Word."
Lord Jesus, as the day of Your judgment grows closer, may I be undeterred by the scoffers. Open their eyes, I pray, to see the reality confronting them. Open my eyes, too, when I have become conditioned to believe things will just go on as they always have. May I be reminded today of what You have clearly spoken and know that by Your Word judgment will come. Prepare me for such a time as this!
— In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!
