Fall Down

“Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.” Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

— Revelation 4:8-11

Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,

Heaven is a place of non-stop, 24/7 worship unto You. Day and night, the seraphim surround God’s throne and declare Him holy. The Greek word used for Almighty is “pantokrator” which conveys the idea, “he who holds sway over all things.” I have never read that definition before and when I did, something shifted in me. God’s omnipotence was no longer theoretical. You, gracious God, hold sway over all things. Whatever seems to hold my attention, my concern, or my worry, You currently and completely hold sway over it. It is under Your authority and within Your power.

You are the One who was, and is, and is to come. You are before all things, with all things, and will be after all things. The twenty-four elders hear this worship and though they have the right to sit on the twenty-four thrones surrounding Your throne (vs. 4), they choose to fall down before You. We have the right to sit, but we choose to fall! Though I am seated with Christ (Ephesians 2:6), I choose to fall down before You. And the victor’s crown that was placed on my head is placed before You. The word here is “ballo” which means “to throw or let go of a thing without caring where it falls.” In Your presence, whatever reward I have received from You is cast down before You, because Your presence is my greatest reward!

Lord Jesus, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power. I fall down before You. I cast my crown before You. For You created me, and by Your will I was created and have my being.

— In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!
