My Redeemer
“I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!”
— Job 19:25-27
Gracious Lord Jesus, my friend and my King,
Job was seeing and prophetically declaring that the One who will vindicate him and redeem his life lives and that at the end He will stand on the earth. This declaration announced Your arrival upon the earth as Messiah who would redeem all of humanity through Your payment upon the cross. 1 Peter 1:18 describes Your redemption of our lives, “…you were redeemed from the empty way of life…with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” Galatians 3:13 says, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” I am redeemed by Your life!
Job says that “in the end” his redeemer will stand on the earth. Zechariah 14:3-4 pictures that future day. “Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two…” Lord, there is a day coming when You will stand upon the earth and “The LORD will be king over the whole earth,” (Zechariah 14:9). I can agree with Job that on that day, “I will see God; I myself will see Him with my own eyes… How my heart yearns within me.”
Lord Jesus, my heart truly yearns for that day when every eye will see Your coming, that day when You set up Your rightful throne upon this earth and fully take back from the defeated one what is Yours and Yours alone. I know that You live and in the end You will stand upon the earth. Until that day comes, may I continue to trust You that even if my skin is destroyed, I will see God. Truly my heart yearns within me to see my Redeemer.
— In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!
